Golden West Blazes Past Bakersfield

Bakersfield, Calif. -  Golden West, ranked No. 6 in the state defeated No. 5 Bakersfield last night in a 3-1 match (20-25, 25-17,25-11, 30-28). The women will now move on the CCCAA State Championships as the No. 2 seed from the south. Golden West has not been to the state championship tournament since 2007.

Golden West rallied after the losing the first set by five (20-25), and swept the next three games (25-17, 25-11, and 30-28) only giving up eleven points in the third set. In the deciding set, the Rustlers led 18-10, then held the match point at 24-22, but Bakersfield was not ready to give up their CCCAA State title dreams. They clawed their way back sending the game into extra points, holding the set point twice, but could not close out the Rustlers. Golden West kept working together and with a final kill from Kami Dickerson, the Rustlers finished the set with a 30-28 victory.

Bethanee Boggs played an outstanding match with 21 kills, 5 blocks and 13 digs, Saelina Dunn added 20 kills herself, and Alicia Utke served 3 aces and put up 4 solo blocks. 

Golden West now has No. 2 seed in the south going into the CCCAA Volleyball State Championships. The Rustlers will play No. 1 in the North, Fresno City College on Saturday at Fullerton College at 2:00pm.
