The Golden West College women's water polo team had a perfect day in the pool, starting with a 23-0 shutout against East Los Angeles College, followed by a hard-fought 12-6 victory over LA Valley. With these two wins, the Rustlers improve to 5-6 overall while heading into conference foe Riverside City at home on October 2nd.
Game 1: Rustlers Crush East Los Angeles 23-0
Golden West set the tone early and never relented, overwhelming the East Los Angeles Huskies with a relentless attack. Makena Gray led the scoring with five goals, while Cami Luhm added four. Eight different Rustlers found the back of the net, while notching their shutout win of the season.
Goalie Nathalia Johnston had a flawless outing, making four saves and helping to shut out the Huskies.
Game 2: Rustlers Edge LA Valley 12-6
In their second matchup of the day, Golden West battled LA Valley in a more competitive contest but still emerged victorious, 12-6. Hanna Menyhart was unstoppable, scoring seven goals to lead the Rustlers' offense. Makena Gray contributed three goals, while Candice DeMayo and Angi Franzetti each added one.
Golden West's defense faced a stronger challenge from LA Valley, particularly from Yareth Ramirez, who scored four goals and added two assists. However, goalie Nathalia Johnston was a rock in goal, making 12 saves on 18 shots to help secure the win.
Despite LA Valley's improved offensive output, Golden West's ability to respond under pressure and maintain control proved decisive. The Rustlers' efficiency on offense and tight defensive coverage ensured they stayed ahead throughout the match.
